2022-2023 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Seasonal Measures & Information

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (DAFF) has finalised the seasonal measures for the 2022-2023 BMSB risk season.

The measures remain consistent with previous BMSB risk seasons.

The BMSB risk season is for goods and vessels that depart Target Risk Countries between 1st September 2022 and 30th April 2023 (inclusive).

The final DAFF seasonal measures are available on the BMSB webpage.

What’s New

  • Emerging risk countries – China and UK only
  • Chapters 94 and 95 will be subject to random inspections for emerging risk countries
  • 120 hours policy been amended for goods that have been rolled (with evidence)
  • Inspect (unpack) Inspections instead of Secure Seals intact inspections at Approved Arrangements

For the 2022-2023 BMSB risk season, measures will apply to:

  • certain goods manufactured in, or shipped from target risk countries, and/or
  • vessels that berth at, load or transship from target risk countries

Safeguarding Arrangements Scheme:

As part of the 2022-2023 measures, DAFF has made the “Safeguarding Arrangements Scheme” available to Australian importers.

The scheme recognises the ability of approved participants to manage BMSB risk offshore, from the point of manufacture to the point of export.
